TMMOB’s Chair of Executive Committee Emin Koramaz made a press statement about sod-cutting ceremony for Akkuyu Nuclear Power Station which is going to be realized today, 3 April 2018, despite a suit against CED (Environment Evaluation) Report commenced and it has been still under judgement.

In Akkuyu Nuclear Power Station which is full of lawlessness in every stage beginning from CED Report to construction activities, a sod-cutting ceremony is going to be realized today by disregarding law once again.
First of all, it should be known that suit that we commenced as TMMOB against Akkuyu Nuclear Energy Station has been still under judgement. Sod-cutting ceremony to be realized without considering legal process while environmental risks that Power Station will cause are high, reveals lawlessness of AKP governance. In addition, it ignores will of residents of Mersin who have stood up to Nuclear Power Station in Akkuyu for 40 years.
Nuclear power stations pose a high risk for future of our world. Both risk of accidents and radiation will be emitted threaten all living things. History of world is full of examples that even tiny accidents caused devastating social and environmental disasters. Our country which is known with its work accidents and fault lines increases possibility of risks that nuclear power stations may cause.
There is no need for nuclear power station in Turkey. Long term projection reports of TEİAŞ (Turkey Electricity Transmission Incorporated Company) show that Turkey’s existing electricity production plants is sufficient for meeting energy need of our country. As a result that renewable energy sources to be put in use, nuclear energy power plants will totally turn into an unnecessary investment. Despite this fact, AKP governance hypothecates future of our country through giving purchasing guarantee which is three times more than exiting electricity cost.
Insistence and haste of AKP governance regarding nuclear power plant is not a need for nuclear energy. There is no need for nuclear energy in our country.
Our country has been dragged within international dependency relations via nuclear energy plant adventure.
TMMOB is with people in Mersin and Sinop who have stood up to nuclear power plant.
TMMOB sides with nature, future of our society and country.
TMMOB will continue to be against projects of treason threatening our future.
We want a nuclear power plant neither in Mersin, Sinop nor in any other place.
Adventure of nuclear power endangering future of our country and region should be immediately given up.
